A Cozy Fall Day in Newport, Rhode Island๐Ÿ‚

Thereโ€™s something special about Newport in the fall โ€” the summer crowds fade, the air turns crisp, and the whole town feels calm and golden. The waterfront is lined with pumpkins, the historic homes are decked out for Halloween, and the mansions glow against the changing leaves. Itโ€™s the perfect time to wander, eat, and soak up that coastal New England charm.

We started our day at The Breakers, arguably the most iconic of the Newport Mansions. No matter how many times you visit, itโ€™s breathtaking โ€” the grand staircases, marble halls, and the Atlantic views that never get old. From there, we strolled down Bellevue Avenue and made our way toward the harbor for lunch at Diegoโ€™s, one of my absolute favorite Newport spots.

๐ŸŒฎ Lunch at Diegoโ€™s: Vegan Heaven by the Harbor

Located right on Bowenโ€™s Wharf, Diegoโ€™s is colorful, cozy, and full of life โ€” and best of all, they have an entire section of their menu dedicated to vegan dishes. Itโ€™s rare to find Mexican food this flavorful and creative thatโ€™s also completely plant-based.

We started with their guacamole and tortilla chips, which are next-level โ€” fresh, chunky, and perfectly seasoned. Then came the street tacos, butternut squash and mushroom quesadillas, and the crispy Mexican pizza โ€” every single dish was incredible. Even my non-vegan friends agreed the cheese tasted just like the real thing.

For drinks, we ordered a round of mocktails โ€” The Falling Down, Is There Coconut in This?, and Java Juice โ€” all refreshing, layered, and beautifully presented. Between the food, the view of the harbor, and the cozy fall dรฉcor, it was the kind of meal that makes you want to linger a little longer.

Exploring the Harbor

After lunch, we walked along the wharf, stopping into the shops decorated for the season โ€” from nautical boutiques to little coffee spots with spiced lattes and pumpkin treats. Newport has this magical mix of seaside energy and small-town charm thatโ€™s hard to beat.

๐Ÿท Afternoon at Newport Vineyards

After lunch, we made our way inland to Newport Vineyards, just a short drive from the harbor. The property is stunning in the fall โ€” rows of vines turning amber, pumpkins lining the pathways, and that perfect late-afternoon light.

We wandered through the vineyard, shared a tasting flight (mocktail for me!), and sat outside to take in the views. Itโ€™s such a peaceful way to wrap up a day in Newport โ€” the kind of spot that makes you slow down and just breathe it all in. Whether youโ€™re there for a tasting, lunch at Brix Restaurant, or just a cozy afternoon, itโ€™s an absolute must in the fall.
